The College – A Portrayal

Government Polytechnic College for Women (GPCW) functions under the authority of Directorate of Technical Education, Government of Tamil Nadu and affiliated to AICTE.

Established in the year 1964 with just 40 students in two courses viz. Diploma in Civil Engineering and National Diploma in Commercial Practice, this college now in its 50th year of existence, stands tall as a prestigious institution with 7 branches of study with over 1200 students.

Located in the heart of the city in a sprawling 10 acre campus amidst green environ, our college is a big attraction to women from both urban and rural areas. Catering to the needs of women, especially the downtrodden, it quenches their thirst for technical and commercial skills and know-how.

In its giant strides during its history of five decades, it has grown in leaps and bounds taking along the society, especially the women, empowering them technically, making them economically independent to be viable and equal partners to men both in family and profession. Through devoted service the institution not only provides students with opportunities to develop skills but also develop the right attitudes to function successfully in the ever competing world.

By the concerted efforts of the past and present faculty, the institution today stands as a pioneering and prestigious institution echoing the voice of women in the Kongu region.

 Institute of Engineers Students’ Chapter

                As an affiliate of the Institute of Engineers of India, our students’ chapter organizes seminars and works shops in the field of engineering and technology to keep the student updated in their relevant fields

Commerce Association

            Run and managed independently by the students of Modern Office Practice under the auspices of the Commerce Department, this association engages itself in:

·                 Conducting periodical meetings, seminars and workshops on the latest trends in trade, commerce and industry
·                 Publishing articles on the current topics to augment their study materials
·                 Organizing industrial visits to get a first-hand experience of work environment
·                 Providing a platform to demonstrate the skills of the students
·                 Abridging the gap between the student community and the industry through memoranda of understanding for mutual benefits, like training and placement


Youth Red Cross

                Under this banner Blood Donation Camps and First Aid Training Camps are organized. In case of emergencies student volunteers are identified and taken to hospitals to donate blood on the spot.

Red Ribbon Club

                Seminar, Workshops and Rallies are conducted through this club to spread awareness regarding the dangers of AIDS and educate common public the ways to prevent communication and infection of the disease. Facts and Myths about AIDS are disseminated through pamphlets.
